Two of the biggest names in the sport of boxing will clash inside the ring on Saturday night in Las Vegas in a can't-miss battle of unbeatens.
The top pound-for-pound boxer on the planet, Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KOs), will take on Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) for the Super Welterweight World Championship.
But although he's fought in nearly as many professional bouts as the 36-year-old Mayweather, the 23-year-old Alvarez lacks the top-flight experience that his opponent possesses, which could prove to be the difference in a fight of this magnitude.
Vegas oddsmakers are certainly aware of Mayweather's impressive legacy and have made him the favorite in this weekend's 12-round title bout.
Let's take a look at what you need to know heading into Saturday's fight.
What: Super Welterweight World Championship
When: Saturday, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET (main event close to 11 p.m. ET)
Where: MGM Grand, Las Vegas
Watch: Showtime pay-per-view ($69.99)
Weight: 152 pounds (catchweight)
What's at Stake?
Each fighter will put their respective titles on the line in Saturday's super welterweight showdown in Vegas.
The favorite, Floyd Mayweather Jr., will fight to retain his WBA super light middleweight championship and strip Canelo Alvarez of his WBC light middleweight title in the process.
Alvarez has successfully defended his WBC light middleweight crown six times since winning it back in 2011. However, the up-and-coming Mexican has yet to defend his title against a boxer of Mayweather's caliber.
In addition to the championship belts, legacies will be on the line on Saturday night, especially Mayweather's. While everyone is expecting a win from the boastful American, a stunning loss would surely impact his remarkable legacy.
Prediction
Although Alvarez's stellar punching power and accuracy cannot be ignored (30 knockouts in 43 career fights), Mayweather's unrivaled defense and experience make him a heavy favorite in this fight.
With a spectacular professional mark of 44-0 coming in—21-0 in championship fights—it'll be up to Alvarez to dig deeper than he has ever before and shock the sports world.
But don't bet on it. Mayweather has fought under the spotlight on numerous occasions over the years. Although youth is on his opponents side, the argument can be made that Money looked fresher than ever in his convincing victory over Robert Guerrero back in May.
Guerrero only landed 19 percent of his punches in that 12-round fight, and each time he missed, Mayweather was making him pay with brutal combinations.
With the lights turned up bright again on Saturday night, look for Mayweather to deliver as he's done his entire career.
Prediction: Mayweather def. Alvarez via unanimous decision
