Mayweather vs. Alvarez: Biggest Strength and Weakness for Each Fighter
Sep 12th 2013, 11:00, by Tyler Brooke

The fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has been hyped up for a while now, and each fighter will need to capitalize on his strengths and hide his weaknesses if he hopes to come out on top of this big-time fight.

At 44-0, Money will be taking on Canelo, who is 42-0-1 over his career. While Mayweather has fought plenty of elite fighters, this will be Canelo's first fight against a top-tier opponent, and he will certainly be the underdog in the fight.

The fighters are preparing for Saturday's big fight, and they'll want to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses once the match begins.

Floyd Mayweather

Strength: Counterpunching

When it comes to making opposing fighters look foolish with counters, Mayweather is easily one of the best out there.

Money combines his speed, defense and intelligence in the ring to avoid punches from opponents while coming back with his own shots.

This will be a big advantage over a fighter who likes to be aggressive, especially later in the match. When Canelo starts missing more often with his punches, Mayweather can come in and make him pay with the nasty counters we've all seen from him before.

Weakness: Knockouts

The one knock on Mayweather has been that he isn't a KO fighter, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for the 36-year-old fighter.

In his 44 career fights, Mayweather has knocked out 26 fighters.  Over his last five fights, however, his only knockout came in the fourth round against Victor Ortiz back in 2011.

There's little doubt Mayweather is the best boxer in the world at the moment, but knocking people out isn't something he's particularly great at.  Instead, he will focus on making the fight go the distance against Canelo.

Canelo Alvarez

Strength: Power

While Mayweather likes to drag out fights, Canelo has no problem knocking out his opponent early.

Alvarez has some impressive power behind his gloves, which he combines with solid accuracy to make himself a potentially deadly fighter.  In his 43 career fights, he's had 21 knockouts, and three of his last five fights have been won by KO.

It will be tough for Canelo to land many shots, but he must make them count when he can actually get to Mayweather.

Weakness: Stamina

If this fight goes the distance, that could spell big trouble for Canelo.

Stamina certainly isn't a strength for Alvarez, who tires as fights continue. His punches get a little weaker, and he starts missing a bit more.

This is especially problematic against a fighter like Mayweather, who has incredible speed and has no problem dragging out fights. Mayweather will wait for Canelo to start slipping and will find ways to finish the job.
