Mayweather vs. Canelo: Contrast in Styles Makes for Intriguing Showdown
Sep 14th 2013, 11:30, by Kyle Newport

Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez have completely different styles, which makes for an intriguing showdown on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

This night will belong to Mayweather, but Alvarez's style will make "The One" must-see television.

In one corner, a living legend will look to add to his 44-0 record. His challenger is a rising star who is looking for a marquee victory that will shoot his career up to a new plateau. Although Canelo is 42-0-1, his career would take off if he is able to walk away victorious this weekend.

Money has been the best fighter of his generation because of his ability to take a defensive approach. His footwork lets him to be in a stance that allows him to move his upper body away from attacks but still puts him in a position to make a quick counter.

The 36-year-old made his debut back in 1996, but he still has enough quickness to frustrate his opponents. He doesn't go for the knockouts—although he does have 26 in his career. Money has the stamina to outlast his opponent. Eight of his last nine fights have lasted at least 10 rounds, and seven of those have gone the distance.

Mayweather has the experience of going up against top competition. He has defeated Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto, and those previous fights give him an edge when it comes to living up to the pressure.

Experience will take on youth when these two square off.

Alvarez is a young fighter who wins with his strength. The 23-year-old has 30 knockouts in 43 matches, so his goal will be to end this fight early.

The 5'9" fighter has the size advantage, and he must use it to his advantage in order to get the knockout. His strength allows him to win with a couple of big blows, which is what it will take to beat Money.

Mayweather allows his opponents to land only 17 percent of their punches, so Canelo will have to make sure that he makes his punches count. When he is lucky enough to make contact, he will need to have power behind his punches.

Canelo hasn't had the experience of having a huge fight in the spotlight before, which makes fans wonder how he will be able to handle the pressure.

Will power be able to beat quickness and give Mayweather his first loss? Does the young Alvarez have a chance if this fight goes the distance? Those are just a few of the storylines everyone will want to follow from the start.

The extreme contrast in styles makes this showdown as intriguing of a matchup as there has been in a long time.
