Kell Brook claims Amir Khan looked “rubbish” in his last fight and says a clash between the Brit and Floyd Mayweather would be a waste of time in the welterweight division.
Brook is angry he has been forced to come through a series of tough bouts to close in on his own world title shot, while Khan appears set to be handed the world’s most lucrative champion on a plate.
According to Nick Parkinson of the Daily Star, Brook stated:
It annoys me when I hear Khan might be fighting Mayweather.
That is because he's not ranked at welterweight, never boxed at welterweight and looked rubbish in his last fight.
Khan is not what people make him out to be - and people who know boxing will tell you that.
Brook has long maintained he is better than Khan, and has often promised to prove it if the pair ever step in the same ring, as reported by ESPN.
However, he cannot currently match Khan’s reputation, which is strong in the U.S. after thrillers like his war with Marcos Maidana.
Khan has won four and lost two of his six outings on American soil, yet he is widely tipped to be Mayweather’s next challenge in May, originally reported by Jeff Powell of the Daily Mail.
Brook has every reason to look on with envy. He is the mandatory challenger to Devon Alexander’s IBF strap, but missed his chance due to injury.
Twice he has seen off the durable Carson Jones and now the Sheffield star will attempt to beat the tricky Vyacheslav Senchenko in yet another title eliminator.
The ongoing expectation of a Mayweather vs. Khan bout only serves to remind Brook he is in a business, which is dictated by money and storylines.
On a sporting front, there is little logic to giving Khan—a man who hardly dominated at light welterweight—an instant crack at the best boxer on the planet without a shred of welterweight experience to his name.
However, Mayweather has beaten every hard-hitting slugger there is. He has beaten men bigger than him, more powerful than him and even men with perceivably greater heart than him.
Khan promises speed. He offers the possibility of beating Mayweather to the punch, the threat of capitalising on a veteran champion who—at some stage—will slow down.
The Brook vs. Khan fight would surely be more a competitive tussle between two boxers on a similar level.

However, Khan is a good fit for Mayweather’s next chapter. He has the big name and the selling points on which to base a blockbuster.
Brook does not have the same pull. It is up to him to knuckle down and change that fact.
