It's fight night, fans, and we hope you'll join us on Saturday for our live coverage of Mike Alvarado vs. Ruslan Provodnikov for the WBO Junior Welterweight Championship. We will be bringing you all the live blow-by-blow action from the 1stBANK Center in Denver.
In the immortal words of Samuel L. Jackson in Jurassic Park: Hold onto your butts. This one has the potential to be a Fight of the Year contender.
Alvarado (34-1, 23 KO)—who will be fighting in front of a hometown crowd—is best known for his brutal two-fight series with Brandon Rios. "Mile High" was stopped in the seventh round of their first contest, but he came out in the rematch with a different game plan. He focused on boxing instead of brawling and narrowly captured a unanimous decision and the championship.
Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO) just loves to fight, and he's darn good at it. Earlier this year, he came out of almost nowhere to rock, drop and nearly stop welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. Although he lost a close unanimous decision, he made a name for himself and showed tremendous power and heart.
Our live coverage will begin at 9:45 p.m. ET, and you can catch the fight live on HBO following a replay of last week's Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez clash. Do not miss this one!
