After yet another questionable decision, controversial boxing judge C.J. Ross has one not-so-surprising supporter in welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Bradley gave his support to Ross, who took a leave of absence from judging after the controversy following her scoring the Floyd Mayweather-Saul "Canelo" Alvarez fight a draw.
The majority of the boxing community judged the fight heavily in Mayweather's favor, while the two other judges also rated Mayweather ahead by a wide margin.
Bradley told the LA Times:
In the Mayweather fight, I thought Mayweather clearly won the fight … but I could just see where a lot of rounds where Mayweather was on the defensive and ‘Canelo’ was landing shots. It was her judgment, you know, and I think it’s (ridiculous)…. She shouldn’t have resigned over it. She knows what she’s doing. She’s seen a lot of fights. This wasn’t her first rodeo.
What else would you expect? Bradley was on the positive side of Ross' last controversial decision, when he was awarded a split-decision victory over Manny Pacquiao in June 2012. Bradley was given the win over his opponent despite the overwhelming media consensus that Pacquiao was the clear winner of the bout.
On the HBO reality series Bradley-Marquez 24/7, Bradley said he felt he won the Pacquiao fight by a margin of 8-4, per Boxing Scene.
No matter what anyone says, Bradley is the official winner of the Pacquiao bout. His undefeated record still states that he defeated one of the decade's best pound-for-pound fighters, since he now sits at 30-0 (12 KOs) heading into his much-anticipated fight with another man who recently defeated Pacquiao in Juan Manuel Marquez.
No one will dispute Marquez's victory. He left Pacquiao lying face down on the canvas of the ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. for the better part of 20 seconds.
Bradley can vindicate his unpopular win over Pacquiao with a decisive win over Marquez on Oct. 12 at the Thomas and Mack Center in their heavily anticipated WBO welterweight title bout.
