Amir Khan Hurts Back in Car Crash as Man Gets Arrested
Nov 6th 2013, 09:02, by Nick Akerman

Amir Khan was forced to cancel a training session after being involved in a car accident, the boxer has confirmed.

As reported by ESPN, Khan escaped with minor injuries after a driver—alleged to have been drunk—rammed into the back of his vehicle at a set of traffic lights.

Both the 26-year-old’s camp and Khan himself discussed the incident on Twitter, confirming he would take the day off to rest. The other driver, meanwhile, was arrested:

Khan is currently on a two-fight winning streak after beating Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz to extend his record to 28-3.

This represents a return to form after Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia condemned Khan to vital losses on American soil—the former marred by controversy after Peterson failed a drugs test, per BBC Sport.

The energetic Englishman has now turned his attention to Floyd Mayweather, admitting a showdown with "Money" remains at the top of his priorities.

As reported by Fox Sports 1 and via The Telegraph, Khan believes he knows exactly how to overcome the sporting great, whose career is defined by cockiness, cash and a 45-0 record.

To fight Floyd Mayweather, you have to box him at his own game. You have to box him. You have to use speed, good footwork. Make them old legs move.

There's a lot of talk about the Mayweather fight happening, but at the moment, I've left it up to my team and Golden Boy.

Khan has a lot of work to do if he is to compete alongside Mayweather’s era-defining qualities. The Bolton-based fighter possesses incredible speed, but as highlighted in his recent losses, needs to learn when to pick his shots and when to take cover.

British heavyweights Tyson Fury and David Haye continue to make a mockery of the nation’s reputation with an endless stream of abuse aimed at one another, per Joe Mewis of the Mirror.

A Khan-Mayweather battle would provide the opportunity for British boxing fans to have something worth shouting about.

However, Khan's long journey to Mayweather is still far from complete.

Whoever the fighter's next opponent turns out to be, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist needs a win to reconfirm his credentials as an intimidating foe.

Time in the gym is vital right now to Khan's progression as he attempts to develop the tactical side of his game. Unwanted incidents like Tuesday's car accident do not help.
