It's fight night, fans, and we hope you'll join us for our live coverage of Saturday's huge showdown between returning super middleweight champion Andre Ward and Edwin Rodriguez.
Ward (26-0, 14 KO) is considered by many to be the second-best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but he's been on the shelf since last September after sustaining a muscle tear in his right shoulder. After a successful surgery, and months of rehab, he's chomping at the bit to once again prove that he's the best 168-pound fighter in the world.
Rodriguez (24-0, 16 KO) earned his shot by demolishing light heavyweight contender Denis Grachev over the summer. He is a strong puncher, and he has the type of killer instinct you cannot teach to a fighter. If Ward is in any way diminished by the injury and layoff, he could be primed for an upset.
Originally scheduled to be for the WBA Super Middleweight Championship, Rodriguez failed to make the 168-pound limit Friday, and he cannot win the title Saturday night.
The fight will be televised live on HBO starting at 10 p.m. ET, and we will bring you all the live action from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET.
