Gonzalez, Mares speak about rematch Jan 7th 2014, 22:06, by Dan Rafael After former three-division titlist Abner Mares suffered a rib injury in training for his rematch with featherweight titlist Jhonny Gonzalez, the fight -- scheduled to headline a Showtime card on Feb. 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles -- was postponed on Dec. 30. While Showtime and promoter Golden Boy plan to reschedule the card when Mares is cleared to resume training, the fighters made statements about the situation on Tuesday. “I'd like to apologize to all of my fans, Golden Boy Promotions and Jhonny Gonzalez,” Mares said.
