Gloves Worn by Muhammad Ali in 1st Heavyweight Championship Fight Hit Auction
Feb 12th 2014, 03:28, by Kyle Newport

One of the most historic items in boxing history is officially up for auction.

ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reported that the gloves Muhammad Ali wore in his first heavyweight championship fight will be sold to the highest bidder by the auction house Heritage on Feb. 22—which is only a few days before the 50th anniversary of the bout.

Actually, Heritage will be auctioning off Cassius Clay's gloves. The gloves were worn against Sonny Liston on Feb. 25, 1964.

Back in December 2012, the gloves were bought from the estate sale of Ali's former trainer, Angelo Dundee, for $385,848. Now they will again be up for auction.

Chris Ivy, director of sports auctions at Heritage, expects the highest bid to surpass $500,000. Bidding has already reached $170,000.

Anything worn by Ali—or Clay in this instance—is sure to fetch a nice sum. The only question is how high the bids will go.
