Manny Pacquiao: Bradley, Marquez and Cotto on Pac-Man's Short List of Next Foe
Aug 6th 2012, 14:27

As Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is set to take a trip to the Philippines to figure out what Manny Pacquiao's future in the ring holds Monday, the list of possible opponents for a November 10 date is a short one that includes Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Miguel Cotto—three fighters whom the eight-division champion has faced before (per BoxingScene.com).

Arum has not spoken with Pacquiao in over a month and says he has no idea which of the three bouts Pacquiao prefers the most.

Arum said:

I won't really know until I see him. I'm going to let him make the call. It's all up to Manny.

Of the three bouts, the one that really stands out as the most logical is a rematch with Bradley, the WBO welterweight champion, as he is the only fighter to hand Pacquiao a loss in the last seven years—although most feel Pacquiao won the fight.

Getting his revenge on Bradley is something Pac-Man must do before his career is over, so getting that out of the way as soon as possible would make sense for Pacquiao.

A fourth bout with Marquez would be the next most sensible bout for Pacquiao, even though Pacquiao has won all three times the two have met in the ring.  Although Pac-Man won all three previous battles, there was really no clear-cut winner in the fights, and the decisions could have gone either way in each of the past bouts.

Clearing up anyone's doubts with a decisive win over Marquez could be as beneficial to his legacy as avenging his loss to Bradley.

A second fight with Cotto makes the least amount of sense here, but a rematch with Cotto could prove to be the most lucrative for Pac-Man.

With fellow pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather's last bout with Cotto this past May doing huge numbers (per BoxingScene.com), Pacquiao would stand to make the most money with Cotto.

Whether Pacquiao decides to chose one of the fights that will help his legacy with a win or the one that could fatten his pocketbook the most remains to be seen, but hopefully by the end of the week we will all know what Pacquiao's next move in the ring will be.
