Adrien Broner Confronts Robert Guerrero at Andre Ward-Chad Dawson Weigh-In
Sep 7th 2012, 23:28

According to Rick Reeno of boxingscene.com, Robert Guerrero and Adrien Broner had a verbal confrontation today at the weigh-in for Andre Ward's fight against Chad Dawson. Shortly after the exchange between the two fighters, Guerrero said the following:

[Broner has] been saying all of this stuff, challenging me and calling me out, so I heard he was down here, and I wanted to pay him a little visit. The one thing that made me laugh, he said, "I still got my zero." But I told him that if he wants a challenge, let's do this at 147 [pounds]. I got the title, let's make it happen. And he said, "Oh, send over the contract." And throughout the whole thing, he wouldn't make any eye contract at all. It's funny when someone talks looking the other way.

Broner came out on stage to greet the fans in attendance before the weigh-in. Broner did a repeat of his famous "can man" rant, in which he said he was willing to take on all comers, Afri-Cans, Ameri-Cans and Mexi-Cans, which seemed to be a shot at Guerrero.

Broner, the undefeated former WBO superfeatherweight champion, and Guerrero, the interim WBC welterweight champion, have been involved in a well-publicized war of words over Twitter recently.

Both Broner and Guerrero are promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, so scheduling a fight between the two shouldn’t be an issue. The fact that Broner was in Oakland is most likely a publicity stunt to drum up interest in a match between the two fighters.

One of the big issues in making this fight is the weight at which it will be held. Broner has fought his entire career near the superfeatherweight limit, while Guerrero recently jumped from lightweight to welterweight.

For Broner to jump from 130 to 147 would be a huge leap, but Guerrero is not a true welterweight, so I don’t know that it would be a big problem.

This would be a great fight to determine whether Broner can be the the next superstar of the sport.
