Sergio Martinez: Determination and Experience Will Lead to Win over Chavez Jr.
Sep 14th 2012, 20:07

Thanks to a wealth of experience in big fights and tremendous motivation, Sergio Martinez will emerge victorious when he takes on undefeated WBC middleweight champion Juilo Cesar Chavez Jr.

Chavez Jr. isn't inexperienced by any means—he holds an undefeated record at 46-0 and is the son of hall of famer Julio Cesar Chavez—he's been surrounded by boxing his entire life. However, when you look at his resume, his record is littered with under-qualified fighters.

Martinez, on the other hand, has been involved with big fights in the past and feels like Chavez Jr. has benefited more from his last name than actually fighting his way to the top. In an interview with ESPN's Dan Rafael, Martinez said this about Chavez's rise to the championship.

The only reason he is world champion is because he is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the son of the legend, and his mouth is so big - even bigger than his own brain - and he's talking too much.

For a fighter like Martinez, who is usually subtle and reserved in the build up of a fight, his disdain for Chavez really sticks out. It would appear that Martinez is especially motivated for this fight and motivation usually gets taken out in the gym.

Chavez Jr. doesn't do much to fight his reputation for being a bit spoiled and arrogant because of his lineage.

He's been working with famed trainer Freddie Roach for this fight, but Roach hasn't exactly been impressed with the 26-year-olds ability to show up for training sessions. Roach told ESPN that Chavez Jr. has missed at least six sessions in the last four weeks.

For a fighter that's facing the biggest test of his career, that's a huge red flag.

Chavez Jr. is talented. There's no doubt about that. Even against dubious competition, it's no small task to go undefeated in over 46 fights. However, in Martinez he's fighting someone that is on the same level as him in terms of talent.

This fight will come down to preparation and motivation—from the looks of things, Martinez has Chavez beat in that department rather handily.
