Welterweight prospect Frankie Gavin finished 2012 strong by winning the British title via clear decision against former world titleholder Junior Witter on Nov. 1. Now, Gavin hopes to keep things rolling in 2013. He’ll be back in action Jan. 18 in Walsall, England, to make his first British title defense against Jason Welborn (10-1, 5 KOs) on promoter Frank Warren’s first show of the year. The 27-year-old Gavin, a 2008 Olympian and Britain’s only world amateur champion, has his eyes on the Commonwealth and European titles before too long.
