Juan Manuel Marquez: Fighting Manny Pacquiao Again Is Only Real Option
Dec 12th 2012, 16:50

After knocking out boxing legend Manny Pacquiao in spectacular fashion, Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez must realize that the natural progression of the business will lead to a fifth fight between these two familiar foes.

This will go down as the greatest feud in boxing history.

Marquez and Pacquiao let the judges depict the first three fights in this series, but a conscientious effort from both men in the fourth bout to end it early saw one of the most exciting brawls of 2012.

With Pac-Man’s pride forcing him into another fight with Marquez in the first place, the knockout loss will have Pacquiao asking for a rematch. While Marquez is unsure what will be next, it is clear that this victory was what the Mexican legend was searching for.

Marquez told Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times about how much this fight meant to him and why he was working so hard for this victory:

I’m very happy I finished it by a knockout, because everyone knew what happened in my last three fights, and I never knew what was going to happen with the judges. I won this fight myself. I won this victory. And I’m very happy.

This fight is the most important one to me, I wanted to beat Pacquiao. Right now, I feel so good about that. It feels like the Mexican people are very happy too.

Marquez has catapulted himself into the discussion as one of the best fighters of this generation, and another victory over Pacquiao would cement his legacy as one of the greatest boxers in history.

That's a risk he must be willing to take.

With so much allure around a fifth fight—for both Marquez, Pac-Man and the boxing community—and a huge payday in store for each fighter, another chapter in this never-ending rivalry should be expected.

After such an exciting ending to the previous fight and the newfound determination in both men, this fifth installment of the rivalry will be the best of them all.

Forget Floyd Mayweather; the fans want to see another Marquez versus Pacquiao brawl.
