Forensic Evidence Clears 2 Men in Death of Hector Camacho
Feb 6th 2013, 17:07

The murder of boxing legend Hector Camacho rocked the sports world in 2012 (h/t CNN), but the mystery of who committed the crime is unfortunately no closer to being solved today than it was on the day Camacho was shot.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), two suspects that were reportedly being investigated for the crime have been cleared of the murders:

Puerto Rico police say forensic evidence has cleared two men suspected in the killing of popular boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho. Police spokesman Alex Diaz told The Associated Press on Wednesday that evidence also showed the suspects' impounded car was not used in the crime.

Camacho and longtime friend Adrian Mojica Moreno were shot while they sat in a car outside a bar in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Moreno died at the scene, but the veteran boxer was taken to a local hospital. After suffering a heart attack and being declared brain dead, Camacho was taken off life support a few days later on Nov. 24.

What’s Next?

This is a horrible story that continues to get worse for Camacho’s family.

Not only were there 10 bags of cocaine found in the vehicle in which the men were shot (h/t CNN)—nine in Moreno’s possession and one open in the car—but also history of legal troubles and drug use had already tarnished Camacho’s reputation.

The Camacho family wants to find justice for the legendary boxer, who despite having his fair share of troubles over his life was still one of the best the sport ever saw.

With world titles in the super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight divisions and a career 79-6-3 record, there is no denying just how great the polarizing star was.

The Puerto Rican police must find the perpetrators that committed these heinous crimes and finally close the book on the saddest chapter of Camacho’s life.
