Leo Santa Cruz vs. Alexander Munoz: Round-by-Round Analysis and Recap May 5th 2013, 02:45 From the opening bell, it was clear this fight wouldn't go the distance. About 10 seconds in, it was clear Leo "Teremoto" Santa Cruz (24-0, 14 KO) would be the victor. The exciting young Mexican fighter completely destroyed Alexander Munoz on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Santa Cruz scored an impressive fifth-round TKO over Munoz to claim the USBA super bantamweight title. Here's how the fight transpired.   Round 1 These two fighters started launching major shots from the opening bell. Munoz brought the action to Santa Cruz, but that is exactly what Teremoto wants. The action was fast and furious, but it was a losing proposition for Munoz from the start. Santa Cruz started to gain the edge early with hard countershots. He easily won this round.   Round 2 I could almost copy and paste the description from the first round here. The only moment that is even worth distinguishing this one from the first was a hard left hand from Munoz about midway through the round. It didn't hurt Santa Cruz at all, but it was a silver lining in an otherwise black cloud for the veteran Venezuelan.   Round 3 Munoz landed a few solid left hooks in this round, but the fact that they had almost no affect on Santa Cruz was the worst possible sign for him. There was nothing to stop the onslaught, and at this point, it was obvious the end would be coming soon for Munoz.   Round 4 Santa Cruz made the action almost completely one sided in this round. The hard right hands dropped Munoz and broke him mentally.  Between rounds, his corner gave him the option to quit on the stool, he decided to give it another round; perhaps he shouldn't have.   Round 5 Munoz flung uppercuts wildly in close quarters, but none of them landed. Ultimately, another right hand dropped Munoz for good. The corner intervened and saved its fighter from any further damage. Santa Cruz is one of the most crowd-pleasing fighters in the sport today.
