Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez: Money Reinforces Legendary Status with Win Sep 17th 2013, 10:45, by Kyle Newport In his easy defeat of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in "The One" over the weekend, Floyd "Money" Mayweather once again proved he is a living legend. Money will continue to fight, but there is not much else he can do in his career that hasn't already been done. He has earned the title of the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and is the greatest fighter of his generation. Nobody in the world has been able to figure out a way to top Mayweather. He debuted back in 1996, and he is now 45-0 in his career. The 36-year-old hasn't lost anything with age. He remains the best defensive fighter in boxing and is one of the quickest to ever step in the ring. Many wondered if a young and powerful fighter like Canelo would be able to knock off the older fighter, but Mayweather quickly put those thoughts to rest. He set the tone early, and he secured the victory with a dominant performance in the late rounds. Alvarez had landed 42 percent of his punches in his seven previous fights, but he was no match for Money's quickness. The 23-year-old landed only 22 percent of his punches against the champion. His power was rendered ineffective by his opponent's quickness. Mayweather physically dominated his bigger opponent. Alvarez had an inch and 15 pounds on Money May, but that proved to be irrelevant. From the fifth round to the 11th, Mayweather landed at least 50 percent of his power punches in every round. The outcome of the bout wasn't in doubt by the later rounds, and he was going for the unanimous decision at that point. He has gone up against the best and has always won. The champion has defeated Robert Guerrero, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya, to name a few.  Nobody will create a problem for Mayweather. Although he doesn't go for the knockout, he has figured out a way to outlast every opponent. Money's latest victory over one of the sport's rising star only reinforces his status as a legend. Anyone who thought age would be a factor was proven wrong, and the fighter continues to rely on his quickness to win.
