Nathan Cleverly to Fight at Cruiserweight Against Daniel Ammann in November
Oct 30th 2013, 12:19, by Nick Akerman

Nathan Cleverly will return to boxing action in a cruiserweight bout against Daniel Ammann on Nov. 30.

The Welsh fighter is set to appear on the same card as Dereck Chisora's European heavyweight title defence against Matteo Modunga and will attempt to rejuvenate his career in front of a British crowd, having suffered a disappointing loss to Sergey Kovalev during the August bout in Cardiff.

London’s Copper Box Arena is the venue for the showdown, as confirmed by Cleverly on Fight News:

I’m ready to return and I can’t wait for November 30th at the Copper Box Arena and show that Nathan Cleverly is back. I’ve got the hunger and desire back and I want to be a world champion again.

Cleverly’s step up to cruiserweight comes after he dominated the European light heavyweight scene across the last five years.

As confirmed in Fight News’ report, his run to the British, Commonwealth and European titles produced 15 championship fights, including notable wins against Shawn Hawk, Robin Krasniqi and fellow Brit Tony Bellew.

Kovalev stopped Cleverly inside four rounds via technical knockout, per The Guardian, a damning loss considering the 26-year-old was under major pressure to impress American audiences. Having taken time to reflect, the man from Caerphilly is ready to battle once more, per Fight News:

The loss to Kovalev has brought me back down to earth and made me realise what I want and that is to be world champion again.

The thought of winning a second world title now really excites and motivates me, but the road back will be hard and I’m looking forward to testing my character and resolve.

Cleverly faces a tough task against Ammann, who currently enjoys a record of 26 wins, five losses and one draw, per Boxrec.

The 30-year-old Australian is an experienced competitor who has little to lose against his returning opponent. Since his defeat against Brad Pitt in May of 2011, "The Doberman" has strung together a streak of eight wins, the most recent of which came via unanimous decision against Ayitey Powers.

Ammann doesn’t possess thumping power and has only ended six fights with a KO. This will provide Cleverly with a boost of confidence heading into the battle for the vacant Commonwealth title, especially as he has floored 12 opponents across 26 victories, per Boxrec.

Everything is in place for Cleverly to come back with a bang. The British crowd's support will prove vital to the fighter's cruiserweight transition, as at the onset of a new chapter for his career, Cleverly simply can't afford to fail.
