Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana PPV Bout Officially Announced for May 3 Feb 25th 2014, 01:11, by Patrick Clarke Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s next fight will come against Marcos Maidana on May 3, according to the 37-year-old's official Twitter account: As ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael points out, the venue for the fight has not yet been confirmed:  The announcement isn't shocking, but somewhat surprising after Amir Khan beat out Maidana in a recent fan vote Mayweather said he would use to determine his next challenger.     The results were met with plenty of criticism from boxing fans, and now it seems a long-awaited Mayweather-Khan showdown will have to wait. For now, Maidana has Mayweather's complete and undivided attention, per Forbes' Kurt Badenhausen: Marcos Maidana’s last performance immediately brought him to my attention. He is an extremely skilled fighter who brings knockout danger to the ring. I think this is a great fight for me and he deserves the opportunity to see if he can do what 45 others have tried to do before him – beat me. Despite Mayweather's enthusiasm, it will be tough for the boxing community and the sports world as a whole to get excited for this fight.  With 35 wins in 38 bouts—31 coming via knockout—Maidana is a capable boxer, but he hasn't squared off against the same level of competition as Mayweather. Not to mention the 30-year-old Argentine has lost three times since 2009. Mayweather will enter May's fight as a heavy favorite to advance to 46-0. His defense and quickness have been sensational in recent fights, and it's unlikely that Maidana will be able to overcome such a tall task. Gaming analyst Todd Fuhrman breaks down the betting outlook: It's clear that Maidana will have to turn in the fight of his life in order to become the first man to beat Mayweather.
